Abstract: Transmission of information in a wireless network is performed by allocating a channel from a transmitter to a receiver. The channel has at least one time slot with each time slot having a plurality of symbols. Each slot contains at least one reference symbol (RS). As information becomes available for transmission, it is classified as prioritized information (PI) and other information. One or more priority symbols are generated using the digital samples of the priority information. Other symbols are generated using the other data. Priority symbols are transmitted on the channel in a manner that separation of priority symbol(s) and a reference symbol does not exceed a time duration of one symbol. For example, Rank Indicator (RI) is transmitted using symbol k, ACKNAK is transmitted using symbol k+1; and the reference signal (RS) is transmitted using symbol k+2, wherein symbols k, k+1, and k+2 are consecutive in time. The other symbols are transmitted in available locations.

Abstract: The disclosure includes a method for rapidly recovering the speed of TCP transmission after a cross technology handover experienced by a mobile device. In the method, the mobile device receives a sequentially first TCP data packet after the cross technology handover completes via a TCP session between the mobile device and a remote TCP server, generates a first acknowledgement (ACK) associated with the sequentially first TCP data packet, where the first ACK comprises a first Selective ACK (SACK) option, removes the first SACK option from the first ACK when a gap exists between data in the sequentially first TCP data packet and data received before the cross technology handover occurs, and sends the first ACK without the first SACK option to the remote TCP server via the TCP session. Because the ACK is without the SACK option when the gap exists, the speed of TCP transmission will be recovered rapidly.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide methods for maximizing the bandwidth utilization in the uplink of a communication system supporting time division multiplexing between unicast and multicast/broadcast communication modes during transmission time intervals in the downlink of a communication system. This is accomplished by multiplexing at least unicast control signaling for UL scheduling assignments in TTIs supporting the multicast/broadcast communication mode. Moreover, multiplexing of unicast control signaling can also be accomplished by splitting a symbol of the multicast/broadcast TTI into two shorter symbols with the first of these two shorter symbols carrying at least unicast control signaling and the second of these shorter symbols carrying multicast/broadcast signaling.
